Vizhinjam International Port has exceeded expectations in its very first year of commercial operations. With 636 ships docking and nearly 14 lakh containers handled, the port has surpassed its original target by a wide margin. Ports Minister V. N. Vasavan announced that the next phase of construction will begin in January, expanding berth capacity, breakwaters, and connectivity. The arrival of the world’s largest container ships and rapid infrastructure development has placed Vizhinjam on the global maritime map. With road, rail, and ICP status boosting logistics and tourism, Vizhinjam is set to become one of the world’s most important transshipment hubs by 2028.
