Former Nagaland Chief Minister S. C. Jamir, who served as Parliamentary Secretary to India's first Prime Minister, Jawaharlal Nehru, shares a unique perspective as Prime Minister Narendra Modi becomes India's longest-serving Prime Minister. He says, ''1961, I was appointed as Parliamentary Secretary attached to Pandit ji, the Prime Minister of India. In the case of Jawaharlal Nehru, it was through his officers. In the case of Modi, he came directly to us. That is, one is personal approach, one is through agencies. That is the difference. Modi goes straight, you express to him, then he knows your problem. No middleman. That is the difference. Modi, direct. The other one is with the middleman. That is the reason why the real problem could not be really conveyed to him. But today, he himself knows by himself. Pandit ji was a philosopher. Modi ji is a practical man. That is the difference. That is why he takes quick decisions. And that is the advantage. He is a practical man... In those days, we were so much influenced by British etiquette. And that was the British etiquette. Today, we are having our Indian etiquette. And therefore, Modi is more accessible than others in those days...''
